OPTIMIZE METHODOLOGY

A disciplined, methodical
approach to SAP isn’t optional.

It’s a requirement for success in the complex world of enterprise technology. At Optimal, we strongly believe that methodology plays a central role in containing costs, improving productivity, and maximizing quality.

That said, we don’t believe any one methodology can anticipate the unique qualities inherent in each situation. That’s why we use OPTIMIZE, a suite of methodologies based on the Accelerated SAP (ASAP) / ValueSAP methodology that features a selection of components we use to address the unique requirements of each SAP project. For each situation, we select the appropriate tools and processes to maximize the team’s chance of success.

OPTIMIZE covers the entire spectrum of planning, implementation and support activities for SAP customers:

Assessment:
Optimal often begins a customer relationship with an engagement where the client requests an objective, expert opinion on critical issues affecting their SAP deployment. In these situations, Optimal has conducted a number of high-impact projects, including:

  • Readiness Assessments
  • Package/Module Evaluations
  • Cost-Benefit and Build vs. Buy Analyses
  • Technology Strategy Development
  • Development, Execution, and Operations Architecture
  • SAP Business Case Development

Blueprint:
Once an SAP customer has determined their strategic goals and objectives, Optimal assists in the high-level design process known as Blueprinting. In Blueprinting, Optimal consultants conduct workshops to determine the scope of implementation, identify functional requirements, analyze As-Is and To-Be processes, map out integration points, and finalize a master project plan.

Realization:
Following the high-level design process, Optimal will take a customer through the detailed design/build process of implementation known as Realization, including:

  • Creation of Development, Execution, and Operations Environments
  • Detailed Functional Design
  • Configuration of SAP Modules
  • Development of SAP Enhancements
  • Development of ABAP Customizations

QA/Test and Go-Live:
An extensive Quality Assurance and Testing process ensures that the SAP solution meets the requirements identified by the project team. In this phase, Optimal consultants typically conduct a battery of tests before rolling the system into production. Activities include:

  • Unit and System Testing
  • Regression Testing
  • Integration Testing
  • Performance and Stress Testing
  • Mock Conversion
  • Conversion and Go-Live

Run-Maintain/Support:
In many situations, Optimal consultants will take part in the day-to-day operation of the live SAP system as part of the Production Support team. Optimal’s role is often to troubleshoot problems as subject matter experts, implement fixes, and act as mentors to other team members until they become self-sufficient.

Continuous Improvement:
After initial Go-Live, SAP customers continually monitor, adjust, and improve the SAP experience for their users. Optimal provides a number of services to address these issues once SAP is in production, including:

  • Performance Optimization
  • Archiving - Planning and Implementation
  • Capacity Planning
  • Upgrades - Planning and Implementation
  • Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity - Planning and Implementation
  • Security Audit
